Born in China, Komui and Lenalee Lee's parents had been taken away from them when they were both young (Lenalee much younger than he), by none other than an Akuma which caused him to be an orphan along with his sister. Years later, when he was twenty-six and Lenalee around thirteen, she was taken away from Komui by the Black Order - them telling him that she was an Accommodator (compatible with an Innocence), despite this she was taken away from him forcefully as she did not want to leave her last relative, and like her Komui did not want to lose his sister - despite this, he had to let her go. This was not his choice and it seemed as though it was not Lenalee's, either. However, three years passed with Komui trying as best as he could to make it into the Black Order - not as an Accommodator, he was not compatible with Innocences, but as someone else they could use - and in time he became the Science Department Supervisor. This came at the perfect time, however this 'perfect' was not a happy one. His sister had, feeling lonely and like a prisonner to the Black Order, attempted to take her own life and was then forced to be strapped down onto her bed. Komui had joined the Order for Lenalee's sake, and letting his prescence be known to his sister, she began to feel more at home with the Order and even took on being her brother's assistant (mostly getting him, and the others in the science group - coffee.) After Komui joined the Order, though, things became a bit more hectic at times, but the job still got done.
